Naki Sumo: Wrestlers try to make babies cry

Sumo wrestlers in Japan have gathered at a temple in Tokyo to take part in the Naki Sumo baby crying contest.

The event - which dates back 400 years - sees amateur wrestlers battle it out by trying to make a baby cry for longer and harder than their opposition.

Each match is judged by a referee who monitors the wail of the babies which are held above the wrestlers heads. The baby which cries most is the winner.

This year 80 babies were taken to Sensoji Temple to take part in the odd event which is said to keep children in good health.

Wow, and there was us thinking that Sumo wrestling was an odd enough sport as it was.

As the babies cry it's traditional for mother to pray that evil spirits are banished.
