Worlds tallest dog Giant George is new top dog

275x250.jpg A Great Dane which measures 7ft 3in (2.2m) from nose to tail has been named the world's tallest dog.

Giant George from Tucson, Arizona, scooped the Guinness World Records title after adjudicators measured him at 43 inches (109cm) from paw to shoulder.

The new 'top dog' - who took the crown by just 0.75 inches - is owned by David Nasser who provides him with a massive 110lbs of food each week.

The huge hound weighs 245 pounds and even sleeps in his own queen-size bed -- but if your dog was that size, you would probably let it sleep where it wanted too.
275x250.jpg Craig Glenday of Guinness World Records said: "This is a hotly contested record and after some controversy and conflicting media reports we decided to send our own official adjudicator to put the final stamp on this record holder.

"We can indeed say now that George is the top dog."

The previous record holder, Titan, a four-year-old Great Dane from San Diego, California stands 42.25 inches tall and was crowned the World’s Tallest Dog in 2009. Prior to Titan was Gibson, of Grass Valley, California, who stood at 42.2 inches tall.

The announcement of the new tallest dog comes as Guinness World Records launches a search for new pet records on its website www.guinnessworldrecords.com
