Museum visitor rips 6-inch hole in a Picasso
A visitor at a New York museum tripped over and accidentally ripped a six inch hole in a painting by Picasso. The balance-challenged woman was attending a class at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, when she fell over.
As she tumbled she fell onto Picasso's 'The Actor' - a large 6ft by 4ft Rose-period painting created in 1904-5.
This caused a irregular vertical tear of about six inches in length in the lower right-hand corner of the masterpiece.
Bosses say the paining will be repaired by conservational staff -- but it's modern art, it might be worth more now, anyway.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Museum of Art said: "Fortunately, the damage did not occur in a focal point of the composition.
"The curatorial and conservation staffs fully expect that the repair—which will take place in the coming weeks—will be unobtrusive.
"The painting will be displayed, as planned, in the forthcoming exhibition Picasso."
It is not the first time someone has accidentally ripped a Picasso - in 2006 casino mogul Steve Wynn ripped a hole through a £80m Picasso painting while gesticulating at a cocktail party.
