Reformed pickpockets put cash INTO pockets
A team of ex-pickpockets has been hired to secretly slip cash INTO the pockets of unsuspecting Brits.20 former criminals will tour the UK carrying out "Put-Pocketing" - the act of secretly putting money into someone’s pocket without them noticing.
The scheme is a (cynical PR stunt) good will gesture, from phone company TalkTalk who say they want to give something back to Brits.
As such, each of the £5, £10 and £20 notes - which will be slipped into handbags or pockets - will have a small card attached about TalkTalk.
Put-pocketers have been told not to target anyone who looks too rich during the £100,000 giveaway, which explains why I will be going out in my most scruffy clothes this week.
Signs proclaiming "Rejoice! Put pockets operating in this area" are also being displayed in activity areas to help people distinguish between Put-Pocketing and real pick pockets.
Former pickpocket Chris Fitch, said: "It feels good to give something back for a change - and Britons certainly need it in the current economic climate.
"Every time I put money back in someone’s pocket I feel less guilty about the fact I spent many years taking it out. Put-Pocketing is just as much of a challenge, and requires all the same stealth and skills”.
Mark Schmid of TalkTalk added: "With so many scams out there, Britons have become very sceptical of companies giving money away – so we have turned to Put-Pocketing to give something back.
"Whilst unconventional, we don’t think anyone is going to mind finding a crisp £20 in their pocket courtesy of the activity”.
