Is your keyboard dirtier than a toilet?

200x190.jpgMany computer users risk becoming ill because their keyboards are up-to FIVE TIMES dirtier than a toilet seat.

Consumer group Which? took swabs from keyboards across London offices and tested them for bugs such as e.coli, staphylococcus aureus and enterobacteria.

They found the bugs to be present in many and say this could cause upset stomachs and food poisoning or 'qwerty tummy' as they are calling it, after the first six letters on a keyboard.
Microbiologist Dr Peter Wilson even insisted one of the tested keyboards was removed, quarantined and cleaned after it was revealed to have 150 times the recommended limit for bacteria.

In the same office the scientists tested a toilet seat which have five times less germs.

Which? said one of the causes of dirty keyboards was users eating lunch at their desk, with crumbs encouraging the growth of bacteria.

Poor personal hygiene, such as not washing hands after going to the toilet, could also be to blame, it said.
