Elvis Presley's 'secret London visit'
It was said that Elvis never visited England, but details of a secret trip to London were yesterday revealed for the first time.Theatre producer Bill Kenwright told BBC radio that in 1958 the King was shown around London by singer Tommy Steele.
Kenwright, a friend of former teen idol Steele, says the two went sightseeing taking in the Houses of Parliament and Buckingham Palace on the secret trip.
It had been thought his brief stopover at Prestwick airport in Scotland in 1960 on his way home from his army base in Germany was believed to be the closest he came to England
Steele, now 71, has confirmed the visit but said it was private adding that he had sworn never to publicly divulge the details.
