Myleene to be 'godmother' of cruise ship
TV babe and musician Myleene Klass has been picked to become the 'godmother' of a 113,000 ton ship. But rather than being responsible for the religious upbringing of the ship, the title means Myleene will perform the traditional naming ceremony for the 'Carnival Splendor'.
Speaking about the role she said: “I am very excited, and a little nervous, at becoming a ship’s godmother for the first time, especially when it involves naming a ship the size of the Carnival Splendor.
"But my family is very connected with ships as my father served in the Merchant Navy.”
The ship, which will carry up to 4,914 passengers has four swimming pools, a 5,500sq ft children’s play area and 22 lounges and bars.
While it is traditional to break a bottle of Champagne over the hull of the ship Myleene will opt for English Sparkling wine instead.
Following the naming ceremony, the Carnival Splendor sets sail for a three-day mini preview cruise to Amsterdam, returning to Dover on July 13, when it will depart the same day for its official inaugural 12-day cruise to the Baltic countries.
Myleene was last week revealed as the new face of Marks & Spencer adverts to promote its travel money service.
