The First Minister of Scotland and leader of Scottish National Party (SNP)Humza Yousaf, announced this Monday, the 29th, his resignation, anticipating the possible motion of censure by the opposition.

Yousaf told reporters:

“I have therefore informed the SNP national secretary of my intention to resign as leader of the party and asked him to launch a leadership contest for my replacement as soon as possible,” as broadcast by Sky News.

Last week, the SNP lost its majority in parliament after Yousaf ended the coalition agreement with the Scottish Green Party due to disagreements over climate change policies.

Following this announcement, several opposition parties expressed their intention to present a motion of censure against Yousaf.
