London to get a unique tartan design
A competition had been launched to find London's first official tartan - despite not being in Scotland. The contest will see would-be designers creating a tartan pattern which they think reflects the character of the English capital.
The design will then be registered with the Tartan Register in Edinburgh a national repository of tartan designs which is used by designers to weavers and kilt makers.
Suggestions to entrants include that it could feature the red of London buses, the green of Hyde park, the black of the traditional taxis and the blue of the Thames.
Seriously, the 'blue' of the Thames? When was the last time these people went to London. But as it's St Andrew's Day today we will let them off.
A spokesperson for the Scottish Tartans Authority, said: "Every tartan is unique, and we look forward to seeing what inspires the residents of London, and the different ways that they will approach Scotland's most traditional textile."
The contest has been organised by Kings Place and the Scottish Tartans Authority - the winner will be announced on Burns Night, January 25th.
