Brits are biggest fans of Euro 2008 - despite not being there

Despite non of the home nations qualifying for Euro 2008, Brits are still the competitions biggest fans, stats have shown.
While our teams did not make it to the tournament it is proving a bigger draw for British football fans than those in countries playing.
Stats for the official Uefa Euro 2008 website show that there are more Brits logging on than fans in Italy, Spain, France, Turkey and Switzerland combined.
The site euro2008.com has received record levels of internet traffic with more than 1 billion page views since launch and 42 million visitors from over 200 countries have logged-in during the competition.
Fans in the UK accounted for 15% of traffic followed by the US (8%), Germany (8%), Canada (5%) and Finland 4%.
Italy, Spain, France, Turkey and Switzerland all total around 3% or less of the total visitors.
David Farrelly, editor of euro2008.com said the site was proving to be a huge success and stats already show an increase of over 250% compared to euro2004.com four years ago.
"The web is a great way to provide information to the millions of fans around the world, and combining it with the latest technology helps provide in-depth information for the new generation of football fans who are increasingly able to multi-task and browse multiple devices at the same time," he said.
Alexandre Fourtoy, CEO of UEFA Media added: "For the first time, all content is distributed from one centralised source, feeding into the overall euro2008.com.
"Football content is available whenever and however they want it."
