A US official told reporters that the United States is ready to act against Chinese companies that support Russia’s war in Ukraine. This statement was made ahead of US Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s trip to China next week.
The State Department official noted that U.S.-China relations are in a different state compared to a year ago, when ties faced serious problems after the United States shot down a suspected Chinese spy balloon.
However, improvements in relations do not mean the US will sacrifice its ability to strengthen alliances and defend its interests, the official said.
“We are prepared to take the measures we deem necessary against companies that severely undermine the security of both Ukraine and Europe,” the source said when asked how Washington intends to convince Beijing to stop supporting Russia in the conflict.
“The demonstration of our willingness to do this is with companies from many countries, not just China,” he added, highlighting that Chinese aid has increased Russia’s weapons production capacity.
