Tether, operator of the world’s largest stablecoin by market value, has announced a significant strategic investment. The company has invested $200 million in Blackrock Neurotech, becoming the majority shareholder in this pioneer in neural implant technology. This investment was made through Tether Evo, Tether’s new venture capital division.

Leading in the development of Human Brain Computer Interface

Founded in 2008, Blackrock Neurotech is a leader in the development of Human Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) technology and is known for its advanced Brain-Computer Interfaces that help restore function to people suffering from severe paralysis and neurological disorders . Patients have used this technology to operate robotic arms and drive cars, among other things, purely with the power of their thoughts.

A notable moment in the company’s history came in 2016, when patient Nathan Copeland controlled a robotic arm with a Blackrock BCI and gave former US President Barack Obama a ‘fist salute’.

Tether’s $200 million investment will be used to commercialize and further deploy medical solutions that have already been used by more than 40 people, and to enhance research and development at Blackrock Neurotech. With this, Tether confirms its ambition to play a key role in the future of BCI technology, with a focus on human evolution.

Significance of investment emphasized

Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether, emphasized the significance of this investment: “Blackrock Neurotech represents a leap into a future where technology not only complements but enhances our human experience. At Tether, we are proud to begin this journey.”

Florian Solzbacher, co-founder of Blackrock Neurotech, expressed his excitement about the collaboration with Tether, emphasizing that their shared vision of restoring human function requires a long-term effort that benefits from committed and visionary partners.

This news follows shortly after Tether introduced four new business divisions on April 18, including Tether Data, Tether Finance, Tether Power and Tether Edu, which focus on various business areas.
