Multinational esports organization Team Liquid has partnered with tournament platform Community Gaming to launch a tournament series for the Onchain Summer 2024 event.

Two TFT and Two Hearthstone competitions

The series consists of two Teamfight Tactics and two Hearthstone competitions, each with a prize pool of USDC $5,000 (~£3954). USDC is a digital asset that can be exchanged 1:1 for US dollars on Base, a Layer-2 blockchain incubated by Coinbase.

The Teamfight Tactics tournaments will take place on June 29-30 and July 13-14, both in a battle royale format for 256 players. Next, 128 Hearthstone players will compete in single-elimination brackets on July 27-28 and August 17-18.

Onchain Summer-evenement

The recently announced series is part of the Onchain Summer event, an annual initiative organized by cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase. This year’s edition combines art, music, gaming and blockchain technology and aims to promote instant and secure payments for esports payouts.

Shelley Taniguchi, Director of Global Partnerships at Team Liquid, commented on Onchain’s payout system: “All top 16 players will be paid immediately, without fees, after the tournament ends. Players’ winnings are placed into their Coinbase Smart Wallet, where they can immediately access and use them. Building with Coinbase onchain products is valuable to the gaming community.”

The esports tournament platform Community Gaming provides players, tournament organizers and game developers with the tools to organize competitions for web2 and web3 games. The company has previously collaborated with Riot Games, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) developer Moonton and Peruvian esports organization INFAMOUS GAMING.

Team Liquid

The global esports organization Team Liquid, founded in 2000, competes in several titles, such as League of Legends, VALORANT, Counter-Strike 2 and Dota 2. Coinbase has been a partner of Team Liquid since 2021 and has collaborated on several projects and introduced a crypto based payment function in the organization’s official store.

This year, Team Liquid expanded its portfolio with rosters in MLBB and EA Sports FC. The organization also collaborated with manga publisher Viz Media to create a merchandise collection themed around the anime series Death Note.
