Former Prime Minister of Italy Silvio Berlusconi died at the age of 86 on Monday morning (12). He was admitted to the San Raffaele hospital in Milan, accompanied by his wife Marta Fascina and their children.

Berlusconi was diagnosed with leukemia. In recent years, since he was hospitalized with Covid-19 in September 2020, the politician has also developed a lung infection.

Last April 5, the former Italian prime minister was hospitalized for treatment of the disease and remained in intensive care for more than a month. Two days ago, he was hospitalized again to undergo routine tests, however, his health deteriorated rapidly and he could not resist.

Berlusconi led three Italian governments between 1994 and 2011. He was also among the richest men on the peninsula with a fortune estimated at around 6.9 billion dollars (around 33.6 billion reais in current exchange rates), according to the latest update of Forbes billionaires ranking.

It is also worth mentioning that the tycoon built his assets with the media holding Fininvest, in the 1970s. Before entering politics, in the 90s, Berlusconi also owned AC Milan, an Italian soccer team.
