Sam Bankman-Fried, the founder of the spectacularly imploded FTX, faces a sentence of 40 to 50 years in prison. It is expected that he will hear on March 28 what the rest of his life will look like.

Now people are trying to arrange a lower sentence for the fallen CEO of FTX on various grounds.

‘Sam didn’t know what he was doing because of his autism’

It’s common knowledge that Sam Bankman-Fried’s brain works a little differently than the average person’s. First of all, he is of course extremely smart, but it is mainly his personality that makes him stand out.

For example, he could play a computer game in the background during interviews with major television programs. He didn’t understand how that could seem derogatory in any way.

“I can speak from experience that the brains of people with autism work differently. Although I never met Sam, I believe that despite his degree from MIT, he did not fully understand what was going on and that he had no malicious intent,” said Maria Centrella, the mother of a child with autism.

That may be true, but that doesn’t change the fact that Sam Bankman-Fried was playing with billions of other people’s dollars. They should have sounded the alarm as soon as the losses started to pile up. As soon as they lost control, something should have been done.

40 to 50 years in jail

As things stand now, it looks like Sam Bankman-Fried will spend the next 40 to 50 years in prison. According to his relatives and friends, that would be a horrific punishment and there is a good chance that he will harm himself, given his personality.

However, many of those letters from family and friends fail to mention the impact that FTX’s collapse had on investors, who lost billions of dollars as a result.

There will be people who may have thought about suicide as a result or who still have to deal with the sadness on a daily basis that they lost their savings on the stock exchange platform.

Of course, nothing gave Sam Bankman-Fried the right to play with other people’s savings and his autism cannot be a reason to receive a lesser sentence for that. After all, autism does not mean that you no longer understand that playing with other people’s savings is not good.
