On November 20, the International Transvestite-Trans Remembrance Day is commemorated, with the aim of making visible the violence, discrimination and hate crimes suffered by the group.
On this occasion, the call was crossed by the transvesticicide of Zoe López García, a 47-year-old activist who fought for trans employment and was the president of the Hotel Gondolín, a space that welcomes trans people in vulnerable situations. The mobilization also once again demanded: Where is Tehuel? At the beginning, an event was held in Plaza de Mayo and then a mobilization took place towards Congress.
The repudiation of Javier Milei, the winner of the runoff on Sunday’s election day, was also heard there. From La Libertad Avanza, Milei’s space, they have been insisting on attacking the Comprehensive Sexual Education law and the right to abortion. The electoral result is the expression of the deep economic and social crisis that the country is going through under the government of the Frente de Todos, which ended up making way for the extreme right recently allied with a sector of Together for Change.
The adjustment plans proposed by Milei promise a greater impact for women and even more so for transvestites and trans people, who suffer employment discrimination, lack of access to health, education and housing. Therefore, the march shows the way to confront her reactionary policies: mobilization in the streets. A march against sexist violence is also expected on November 25, called by sectors of the women’s movement.
