The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, said this Friday (24) that he wants to meet with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT). The statement was given during a press conference in Kiev.
According to the Ukrainian leader, the PT could help make “Ukraine understood in Latin America”.
“I sent you invitations to come to Ukraine. I’m really looking forward to meeting him. I would like him to help me with a platform to dialogue with Latin America”, stated Zelensky. “I’m really interested in this. And I really appreciate a few steps by Brazil for supporting our territorial integrity and sovereignty. This is very important for us. Especially now. I am just waiting for our meeting, ”he added.
“Eye to eye, face to face, I will be better understood, and I think Ukraine will be better understood,” concluded the Ukrainian president.
Zelensky had already mentioned that he plans a so-called “peace summit” between Ukraine and countries from the Global South – from Latin America, Africa, China and India – to end the war between his country and Russia.
“You know how difficult it is for me to leave the country, but I would travel especially for this meeting,” said the Ukrainian president on the prospect of a summit with Latin American countries. “I could communicate with them, with their media, with their societies.”
The declaration comes after Brazil voted, in the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN), in favor of the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine.
Earlier, Lula declared that it is “urgent that a group of countries, not involved in the conflict, assume the responsibility of forwarding a negotiation to restore peace.”
“At a time when humanity, with so many challenges, needs peace, one year of the war between Russia and Ukraine is completed. It is urgent that a group of countries, not involved in the conflict, assume the responsibility of forwarding a negotiation to restore peace”, said the Brazilian president, on Twitter.
