Chinese President Xi Jinping and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz met in Beijing this Tuesday, 16th, to discuss the importance of bilateral relations between China and Germany.

During the meeting, they highlighted the significant impact of these relations not only for the two countries, but also on the global stage.

He stressed that cooperation between China and Germany not only benefits both countries, but also the world at large, citing China’s export of electric vehicles, lithium batteries and photovoltaic products as important contributions to combating climate change and promoting a transition to a green and low-carbon economy.

In turn, Olaf Scholz emphasized the importance of fair competition and expressed support for free trade, opposing protectionist measures. He highlighted the need to avoid practices such as dumping, overproduction and copyright infringement.

During the meeting, Scholz agreed with Xi on the need to combat protectionism and reinforced Germany’s commitment to fighting climate change and other global challenges. He mentioned the close exchanges between the two countries at various levels and fields, including high-level strategic and financial dialogues.

After the official meeting, Xi Jinping and Olaf Scholz continued their discussions over lunch, covering a wide range of issues.
