Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), gave a 24-hour deadline for the social network X to prove the legality of its new representation in Brazil. The decision was made after the company informed that the lawyers André Zonaro Jacket and Sérgio Rosenthal would be their legal representatives in the country.

Moraes requested that the social network, owned by billionaire Elon Musk, present documents proving the registration of the lawyers with the Commercial Board and their formal appointment to the position. According to the minister, there is still no evidence of the resumption of activities of X Brasil Internet LTDA, nor of the regularity in the appointment of new representatives or lawyers.

Fine for non-compliance

Earlier, Moraes imposed a R$5 million fine on the social network for failing to comply with a court ruling that resulted in the platform’s suspension the previous month. The suspension occurred after the 24-hour deadline given to Musk to appoint a legal representative in Brazil expired, a decision that was upheld by the First Panel of the Supreme Court.

On August 17, Musk announced the closure of the company’s headquarters in Brazil after the social network was fined for failing to comply with the order to remove accounts investigated for publishing messages considered anti-democratic.
