The Israeli army has announced that it has carried out an attack in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, against Hezbollah targets, and the state news agency reports that at least five people have died. “The Israel Defense Forces carried out a targeted attack in Beirut. For the moment, there are no changes in the defensive directives of the home front command,” the armed forces said.

Hezbollah launched 150 rockets at northern Israel in several waves on Friday, the Israeli army said. Some were intercepted and the rest landed in open spaces.

Israeli fighter planes launched more than fifty airstrikes on Thursday against several areas in southern and southeastern Lebanon, amid the growing tension in the countryreported the local television channel Al Manar, belonging to the Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah.

“The number of airstrikes carried out by the Zionist enemy has increased to 52 against the areas of Al Hargiya in Al Mahmudeya, the outskirts of Al Aishiya, the Rihan Heights and the surroundings of Nahr Barhaz,” said the channel, which acts as a mouthpiece for the armed group.

The Lebanese National News Agency (ANN) also confirmed “a series” of air strikes against these areas concentrated in the Jezzine region, quite far from the common border but within the radius of action already used previously by the Jewish State.

These attacks come hours after a wave of explosions on the pagers and walkie-talkies of hundreds of Hezbollah members, and after statements by the Hezbollah leader regarding this as a “declaration of war.” Israel, meanwhile, speaks of a “new phase.”

Israel confirms responsibility for attacks

The Israeli military confirmed late Thursday that it had carried out airstrikes against around 100 rocket launchers belonging to the Lebanese Shiite militia Hezbollah, some of which it said were “ready to fire at Israel.”

According to the military statement, released minutes before midnight, Israeli fighter jets carried out an intensive two-hour bombing raid, “under the direction of intelligence” from the army, targeting some 100 launchers and additional infrastructure that, in total, contained some 1,000 barrels of rocket launchers.

The army “will continue to operate to degrade the infrastructure and capabilities” of Hezbollah in order to “defend” the State of Israel, the text details.

The Lebanese television channel Al Manar, which belongs to Hezbollah, reported more than 50 Israeli attacks near the border last night, while the Lebanese National News Agency (ANN) confirmed bombings against areas located in the Jezzine region, quite far from the common border but within the radius of action previously covered by the Hebrew State.

This is the second wave of bombings against southern Lebanon carried out by Israel in recent hours, after the army bombed another 30 launching pads and infrastructure belonging to Hezbollah in the afternoon.

All this comes amid growing tension between the sides after two waves of simultaneous explosions this week on thousands of communication devices carried by Hezbollah members killed 37 people and injured nearly 3,000 in Lebanese territory.
