At least 68 dead and 47 injured after the last US attack on a migrant detention center in Saada province

A US air strike killed at least 68 African migrants in the Province of Sada in northwestern Yemen on Monday at one of the deadliest attacks since Donald Trump entered the White House almost 100 days ago.

The Yemen Civil Defense said in a statement on Telegram that the attack, which injured about 47 people, hit a migrant detention center that housed about 100 people.

Images transmitted by the Al-Masirah TV channel, aligned with the Houthis, showed several bodies and injured on site, while medical and rescue teams attended the injured.

There were no immediate US comments, but a statement issued by the US Central Command before the attack said Washington’s “intense and sustained campaign” since March 15 has reached more than 800 targets and “killed hundreds of Houthi combatants and several Housei leaders, including high missile and UAVS Houthi officials”.

Yemen, the poorest country in the Arab world, has been devastated since 2014 by a conflict in progress between Rebels Houthi, who control most of the north, and Yemeni factions in the south, supported by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

The migrant detention center hit on Monday housed about 100 people from Ethiopia and other African countries that were detained as they crossed the Yemen in search of work in Saudi Arabia.

In 2022, an attack by the Saudi Arabia coalition that fought the Houthis hit a detention center, killing 66 detainees, according to a United Nations report.

US forces claim to target the Houthis due to groups of group A ships in the Red Sea and Israel. The Houthis claim to have launched their attacks on Red Sea ships linked to Israel in retaliation to the Israeli war in Gaza.

On April 18, a US attack on Ras Isa’s port of fuel in Yemen killed at least 74 people and wounded another 171 in the most deadly attack ever registered by the US in Yemen.

Nevertheless, Hourhi forces continues to launch missiles against Israeli and Americans ships in the Red Sea, as well as US military drones.

Increased US attacks also occurs at a time when Trump intensifies efforts to press Iran – the main supporter of the Houthis – to agree with a new agreement about their nuclear capacities.
