Tomato sauce is a basic condiment in Italian cuisine, but it is used all over the world. It is made with tomatoes, onion, garlic, olive oil and seasonings.

Tomato sauce can be used in a variety of dishes, such as pasta, pizza, lasagna, meat and soups.

Ingredients

  • 2 kg of ripe tomatoes, seeded and chopped

  • 1 medium onion, chopped

  • 2 garlic cloves, chopped

  • 6 tablespoons of olive oil

  • 1 teaspoon of oregano

  • 1 teaspoon dried basil

  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Directions

  • In a large pan, sauté the onion and garlic in olive oil until the onion is transparent.
  • Add the tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt and black pepper.
  • Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, for about 1 hour or until the sauce is thick.
