Telegram, the globally renowned online messaging application, has made major strides in the digital advertising world by launching its new advertising platform, which runs entirely on The Open Network (TON) blockchain technology.
From March this year, channel owners within the Telegram network will be able to receive financial rewards for their published content. This comes after the platform is made available to all advertisers in more than 100 countries worldwide.
Channel owners receive 50% of total advertising revenue
Pavel Durov, the visionary founder and CEO of Telegram, revealed that channel owners will receive as much as 50% of the total advertising revenue generated by the platform. This revenue is paid out by displaying advertisements on their respective channels. Payments for these ads will be made exclusively via the TON blockchain, marking an innovative step forward in the use of blockchain technology for financial transactions within the digital advertising landscape.
Durov explained that the system will work similar to the current method of revenue sharing with users for their Telegram usernames on the Fragment platform, but with a focus on ad sales. “We will sell ads and share the revenue with channel owners in Toncoin. This will create a self-reinforcing cycle, where content creators can convert their earned Toncoins into cash or reinvest in promoting and improving their channels,” said Durov.
Value of Toncoin increased significantly
The announcement comes at a time when the value of Toncoin, the cryptocurrency of the TON blockchain, has increased significantly. With a jump of 13.86% in the last 24 hours leading up to the announcement and an overall increase of over 14% in the past week, the Toncoin now has a market cap of $8.6 billion and stands as the 15th largest cryptocurrency listed on CoinMarketCap.
Interest in the TON blockchain and its possibilities continues to grow. For example, Animoca Brands, a leading blockchain game development company, recently announced it will become the largest validator on the TON blockchain with plans to develop blockchain-based games on Telegram. Yat Siu, the chairman of Animoca Brands, highlighted the potential of Telegram’s massive user base of 800 million monthly active users as a powerful platform for the adoption of blockchain technology.
With Telegram as the fourth most popular online messaging application worldwide, behind WhatsApp, WeChat, and Facebook Messenger, and with more than a trillion monthly views on its broadcast channels, the launch of this blockchain advertising platform sets a new standard for the future of digital advertising and the integration of cryptocurrency into mainstream applications.
