Ingredients
500g of fish (it can be sea bass, dorado, whiting, or any other of your choice) in slices
500g cleaned prawns
2 large tomatoes cut into slices
1 large onion cut into rings
1 red bell pepper cut into rings
1 green pepper cut into rings
1 yellow bell pepper cut into rings
3 minced garlic cloves
1 bunch of chopped chives
1 bunch of chopped coriander
Juice of 2 lemons
400ml of coconut milk
3 tablespoons of palm oil
Salt to taste
Pepper to taste
Directions
- Season the fish fillets with the lemon juice, salt and pepper.
- Book for 15 minutes.
- In a large clay pot or another pan of your choice, heat the palm oil over medium heat.
- Add the onion, garlic, peppers and sauté for a few minutes until they are soft.
- Add the tomatoes and continue to sauté for a few more minutes until the tomatoes begin to break down.
- Add the fish steaks and shrimp to the pan, carefully so as not to break the fish.
- Top with coconut milk and add half of the cilantro and chives.
- Cover the pan and cook over low heat for about 20 to 30 minutes, or until the fish is cooked through and the shrimp are pink and cooked through.
- Remove from the heat and finish with the rest of the cilantro and chopped chives.
- Serve the moqueca accompanied by white rice and pirão (optional).
