Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons wheat flour

  • 2 tablespoons of butter

  • 2 cups of milk

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • Grated nutmeg (optional)

Directions

  • In a pan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  • Add the wheat flour to the melted butter and stir well until you get a homogeneous mixture.
  • Cook the butter and flour mixture for about 1 minute, stirring constantly.
  • Gradually add the milk to the mixture, little by little, stirring constantly to avoid the formation of lumps.
  • Continue cooking the sauce over medium-low heat, stirring constantly, until it thickens to the desired consistency. 
    This usually takes 5-10 minutes.
  • Season the white sauce with salt, pepper and grated nutmeg, if desired.
  • The amount of spices can vary according to your personal taste.
  • Cook the sauce for an additional 1-2 minutes to allow the seasonings to combine.
  • Remove the white sauce from the heat and it is ready to serve.
