Shrimp Stroganoff

Shrimp Stroganoff is a Brazilian dish made with shrimp, tomato sauce, cream and seasonings. It is a creamy and tasty dish, which is often served with white rice and straw potatoes.

Shrimp stroganoff is a variation of traditional stroganoff, which is made with beef. 
The shrimp version is lighter and has a more delicate flavor.

Ingredients

  • 500g gray or pink shrimp

  • 1 tablespoon of butter

  • 1 medium onion chopped

  • 2 cloves of garlic, chopped

  • 1 pinch of oregano

  • 1 pinch of salt

  • Black pepper to taste

  • 1 cup tomato sauce

  • 1 can of cream

Directions

  • Remove the shrimp head and shells, clean and set aside.
  • In a pan, add the butter and let it melt.
  • Then add the onion and garlic and sauté until soft.
  • Add the shrimp, oregano, salt and black pepper and sauté for another 2 minutes, or until the shrimp turns pink.
  • Add the tomato sauce and cream and cook for another 5 minutes, or until the sauce thickens.
  • Serve immediately with white rice and straw potatoes.

Notes

  • For a more intense flavor, use pink shrimp.
  • If you want, add chopped mushrooms to the stew.
  • For a creamier stroganoff, use fresh cream.
