Chicken savory cake is a type of savory pie that is assembled in layers, similar to a cake, but with a filling of shredded chicken and other savory ingredients. It is usually cut into slices and served as an appetizer or snack. It can be made in different sizes and shapes, depending on the cook’s preference.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of wheat flour

  • 3 eggs

  • 1 cup of milk

  • 1/2 cup of oil

  • 1 tablespoon baking powder

  • 1 cooked and shredded chicken breast

  • 1 chopped onion

  • 2 cloves of garlic, chopped

  • 1 chopped tomato

  • 1/2 chopped pepper (optional)

  • 1/2 cup green corn (optional)

  • 1/2 cup peas (optional)

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • 200g grated mozzarella cheese

  • 1 tablespoon butter or margarine for greasing

Directions

  • Preheat the oven to 180°C.
  • Grease a mold with butter or margarine and set aside.
  • In a pan, sauté the onion and garlic in oil until golden.
  • Add the shredded chicken and sauté for a few more minutes.
  • Add the tomato, pepper, corn, peas and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Cook for a few more minutes and set aside.
  • In a bowl, mix the wheat flour, eggs, milk and baking powder until you obtain a homogeneous dough.
  • Pour half the dough into the greased pan, spread the chicken filling on top and cover with half the mozzarella cheese.
  • Place the rest of the dough on top of the filling, spreading it delicately to cover everything.
  • Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella cheese over the dough.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 40 minutes, or until the cake is golden and firm to the touch.
  • Remove from the oven, let it cool slightly and unmold.
  • Cut into slices and serve hot or cold.
