Ingredients
1 cup (240ml) warm milk
1 tablespoon (15g) sugar
1 teaspoon (5g) salt
1/2 cup (120ml) oil
1 egg
3 cups (360g) wheat flour
1 medium onion (120g), chopped
2 ripe tomatoes (240g), chopped
2 cans of sardines in oil (300g), drained
1/2 cup (120ml) tomato sauce
Salt and pepper to taste
Directions
- For the dough, mix the milk, sugar, salt, oil and egg in a large bowl. Add the flour little by little, stirring constantly until it forms a homogeneous dough that doesn’t stick to your hands.
- Knead the dough for 5 minutes or until it is smooth and elastic. Cover with a clean cloth and let rest for 30 minutes.
- While the dough rests, prepare the filling. In a pan, sauté the onion in a drizzle of oil until it becomes transparent. Add the tomatoes and cook for another 5 minutes or until soft.
- Add the sardines, tomato sauce, salt and pepper to taste. Mix well and set aside.
- After resting, divide the dough into two equal parts. Roll out each part with a rolling pin until it forms a disc measuring 30 cm in diameter.
- Transfer a disc of dough to a greased baking tray. Spread the filling over the dough, leaving a 2 cm border.
- Cover with the other dough disc and close the edges, pressing with a fork.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 180ºC for 30 minutes or until the dough is golden.
- Serve the sardine pizza hot or cold.
