1 cup (240ml) warm milk
1 tablespoon (15g) sugar
1 teaspoon (5g) salt
1/2 cup (120ml) oil
1 egg
3 cups (360g) wheat flour
1 medium onion (120g), chopped
2 ripe tomatoes (240g), chopped
2 cans of sardines in oil (300g), drained
1/2 cup (120ml) tomato sauce
Salt and pepper to taste
Directions
- For the dough, mix the milk, sugar, salt, oil and egg in a large bowl.
Add the flour little by little, stirring constantly until it forms a homogeneous dough that doesn’t stick to your hands. - Knead the dough for 5 minutes or until it is smooth and elastic.
Cover with a clean cloth and let rest for 30 minutes. - While the dough is resting, prepare the filling.
In a pan, sauté the onion in a drizzle of oil until it becomes transparent.
Add the tomatoes and cook for another 5 minutes or until soft. - Add the sardines, tomato sauce, salt and pepper to taste.
Mix well and set aside. - After resting, divide the dough into two equal parts.
Roll out each part with a rolling pin until it forms a disc measuring 30 cm in diameter. - Transfer a disc of dough to a greased baking tray.
Spread the filling over the dough, leaving a 2 cm border. - Cover with the other dough disc and close the edges, pressing with a fork.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 180ºC for 30 minutes or until the dough is golden.
- Serve the sardine pizza hot or cold.
