This potato hideaway with ground beef is a comforting and tasty meal. Feel free to adjust the ingredients and seasonings to suit your personal preferences.

Ingredients

  • 1 kg of potatoes (peeled and cut into pieces)

  • 2 tablespoons of butter

  • 1/2 cup of milk

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • 500g ground meat (can be beef, chicken or pork)

  • 1 chopped onion

  • 2 cloves of garlic, chopped

  • 1 chopped tomato

  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce

  • Salt, pepper, and seasonings to taste (paprika, cumin, etc.)

  • Oil for sautéing

Directions

  • Cook the potatoes in salted water until they are soft.
  • Drain the potatoes and puree them using a ricer or mixer.
  • Add the butter, milk, salt and pepper to the puree, mixing well. Reserve.
  • In a pan, heat a little oil and sauté the onion and garlic until golden.
  • Add the ground beef and cook until it is golden brown.
  • Add the tomatoes, tomato sauce, seasonings, salt and pepper. Cook for a few more minutes until the flavors blend well. Reserve.
  • In an ovenproof dish, place half of the mashed potatoes at the bottom.
  • Add the minced meat filling over the puree.
  • Cover the filling with the other half of the puree, spreading it evenly.
  • If you wish, you can sprinkle grated cheese on top to make it gratin.
  • Place the dish in the preheated oven at 180°C for around 20-25 minutes, or until the surface is golden.
  • Remove from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes before serving.
