Pie dough is a traditional puff pastry used in Brazilian cuisine. It is used to prepare various types of pies, with various fillings, such as chicken, ground beef, hearts of palm, cheese, etc.

The pie dough is made with wheat flour, butter or margarine, eggs and salt. The ingredients are mixed until a homogeneous dough is formed. Then, the dough is divided into two equal parts, with one part being used to line the pie pan and the other part being used to close the pie.

Ingredients

  • 500g wheat flour

  • 250g cold butter

  • 3 eggs

  • 1 teaspoon salt

Directions

  • In a bowl, mix the wheat flour and cold butter until it forms crumbs.
  • Add the eggs and salt and knead well until a smooth dough forms.
  • Divide the dough into two equal parts.
  • Roll out one of the pieces of dough with a rolling pin until it forms a disc the size of the pie pan.
  • Line the pie pan with the rolled out dough.
  • Place the pie filling.
  • Roll out the other part of the dough with a rolling pin until it forms a disc the size of the pie pan.
  • Cover the filling with the rolled out dough.
  • Make a decorative cut in the dough.
  • Brush the dough with beaten egg.
  • Bake the pie in a preheated oven at 200 degrees for about 30 minutes, or until the dough is golden.
