Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared today that he will begin procedures to close the operations of Qatar’s satellite television network, Al Jazeera, in Israel.
The spokesman for his party, Likud, announced that Parliament will be convened later today to ratify the legislation necessary for this purpose.
Following the ratification of the law, Netanyahu stated that he “will take immediate steps to close Al Jazeera, in accordance with the procedure established by law,” according to a statement released by the Likud party. Israeli authorities had already accused the broadcaster of collaborating with the Hamas group in Gaza.
