Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, at room temperature

  • 1 and 3/4 cups granulated sugar

  • 3 large eggs

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 2 cups sifted wheat flour

  • 1 teaspoon powdered yeast

  • 1/2 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda

  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt

  • 1 cup whole milk

  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). 
    Grease and flour a 30 cm cake tin.
  • In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. 
    Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. 
    Add vanilla.
  • In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. 
    Gradually add to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. 
    Mix well after each addition.
  • Add the cocoa powder to the dough and mix until well incorporated.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Let the cake cool completely before unmolding and serving.

Notes

  • For a moister cake, add 1/2 cup of plain yogurt or kefir to the batter.
  • For a more chocolatey cake, increase the amount of cocoa powder to 3/4 cup.
  • Decorate the cake with your favorite frosting such as whipped cream, icing or ice cream.
