Lawyer Matías Aufieri, member of the Center of Professionals for Human Rights (CeProDH) of Argentina, was invited to speak before a commission of the Colombian Parliament about eye injuries during the repression of social protest in Latin America.

Matías Aufieri, member of the Center of Professionals for Human Rights (CeProDH) and advisor to the Left Front bench in the Congress of Argentina, was invited to intervene in a special commission of the Colombian Parliament on the ocular traumas suffered by protesters as part of from repression to social protest in the region.

This type of injury has become increasingly recurrent with members of the repressive forces aiming at the body and directly at the face of protesters. This has happened in recent years in Colombia and Chile, and more recently in Argentina where Aufieri received a rubber bullet, which caused him to lose vision in his left eye, on February 1 while he was monitoring the actions of the repressive forces. who acted under the anti-demonstration protocol of the Minister of Security Patricia Bullrich, during the protests of the Omnibus Law of the Government of Javier Milei.


The public hearing in the Parliament of Colombia under the name “Eye injuries in social protest: a practice in Latin America”, took place on February 22 and was sponsored by different human rights groups and organizations such as MOCAO Colombia, which brings together victims of eye attacks at the hands of ESMAD, the police force that was in charge of repression and all types of abuses during the protests in that country.
