Lula announced investments of 300 million reais to boost the sector, highlighting the laying of the cornerstone of the Chilean National Space Center.
“In recent years, the Brazilian space sector has suffered from government neglect. Now we are resuming investment through technological orders worth 300 million reais. We will strengthen the space industry and generate the jobs and income needed,” said Lula.
The Brazilian president also addressed inequalities in space exploration, criticizing the lack of access to resources and policies dominated by private initiatives of billionaires.
“Export controls on technological components and inputs, access restrictions and financial limitations have a disproportionate impact on the global South,” said Lula, adding that “the fantasies of billionaires who would rather colonize Mars than take care of Earth are no substitute for state action and guidance.”
The leaders of the two South American countries signed agreements to promote cooperation in space activities for peaceful purposes, highlighting their commitment to equality and mutual benefit.
According to CNN Chileboth countries plan to develop joint programs and projects that align with their national policies in the space sector.
This initiative marks a significant step in strengthening bilateral relations and promoting regional collaboration in science and technology.
