minutesHungarian slices are a delicious dessert of Hungarian origin that usually includes a sweet pastry filled with a mixture of nuts or poppy seeds.
Ingredients
3 cups of wheat flour
1/2 cup sugar
1 pinch of salt
1 teaspoon of dry yeast
1 cup of warm milk
1/2 cup melted butter
2 eggs
2 cups of ground walnuts
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup of milk
1 teaspoon of vanilla essence
2 cups of ground poppy seeds
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup of milk
1 teaspoon of vanilla essence
Directions
- In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar and salt.
- In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in the warm milk and let it rest for a few minutes.
- Add the dissolved yeast, melted butter and eggs to the flour mixture. Stir well until a homogeneous dough forms.
- Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and let the dough rest in a warm place until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
- In a bowl, mix the ground walnuts, sugar, milk and vanilla essence.
- In a bowl, mix the ground poppy seeds, sugar, milk and vanilla essence.
- Preheat the oven to 180°C.
- Divide the dough in half and roll out each half into a rectangle.
- Evenly spread the walnut filling on one half and the poppy filling on the other half.
- Roll each rectangle of dough into a roll and place on a greased baking tray.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 30-40 minutes, or until the Hungarian slices are golden brown.
- If desired, you can add a powdered sugar frosting topping or drizzle a simple glaze over the Hungarian slices after they are baked.
