Homemade Tomato Sauce

For your homemade tomato sauce to be wonderful, follow the step-by-step preparation instructions.

Ingredients

  • 2 kg of ripe tomatoes

  • 1 medium onion

  • 2 garlic cloves

  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil

  • 1 pinch of salt

  • 1 pinch of sugar

  • 1/2 cup chopped fresh basil

Directions

  • Wash the tomatoes well and cut them in half.
  • In a pan, place the tomatoes, onion, garlic, olive oil, salt and sugar.
  • Place over medium heat and cook for about 30 minutes, or until the tomatoes are very soft.
  • Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  • Blend in a blender until you obtain a homogeneous sauce.
  • Return the sauce to the pan and cook for another 10 minutes, or until it is well reduced.
  • Add chopped fresh basil and mix well.
  • Serve hot with pasta, meat or pizza.

Notes

  • For a more aromatic sauce, use ripe Italian tomatoes.
  • If you want, you can add other seasonings to the sauce, such as oregano, rosemary or black pepper.
  • Homemade tomato sauce can be frozen for up to 3 months.
