Ingredients
500g wheat flour
2 teaspoons of sugar
1 teaspoon of salt
7g dry yeast (or 15g fresh yeast)
300ml of warm water
2 tablespoons olive oil (optional)
Directions
- In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar and salt.
- In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in the warm water.
- Let it rest for about 5 minutes until it starts to foam.
- Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and add the yeast mixture and, if desired, olive oil.
- With a spoon or your hands, start mixing the ingredients until the dough begins to form.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and begin kneading with your hands for about 10 minutes, or until it is smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a clean tea towel and let it rest in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
- After the resting time, preheat the oven to 220°C.
- Remove the dough from the bowl and knead again for a few minutes to remove the air.
- Shape the dough into a loaf shape and place it in a greased loaf pan or on a baking sheet.
- Cover again with the clean dish towel and let it rest for another 30 minutes.
- After the resting time, make a few shallow cuts on the top of the bread with a sharp knife.
- Place the bread in the preheated oven and bake for about 25-30 minutes, or until it is golden on top and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
- Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack before slicing.
