Escondidinho de carne moída is a typical Brazilian dish made with ground beef, mashed potatoes and cheese. It is an easy dish to make and very tasty.

Ingredients

  • 500g minced meat

  • 1 chopped onion

  • 2 minced garlic cloves

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • 1 can of tomato sauce

  • 1/2 cup of water

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • 1 kilo of potatoes

  • 1/2 cup of milk

  • 1/4 cup butter

  • 1 cup grated mozzarella cheese

Directions

  • In a pan, heat the oil and sauté the onion and garlic until soft.
  • Add the ground beef and sauté until well cooked.
  • Add the tomato sauce, water, salt and pepper and cook for 10 minutes, or until the sauce thickens.
  • Reserve.
  • Peel and cut the potatoes into large pieces.
  • Cook the potatoes in boiling water until soft.
  • Drain the potatoes and mash them.
  • Add the milk, butter and mix well until you get a homogeneous puree.
  • In a refractory, spread the mashed potatoes.
  • Cover with ground beef.
  • Sprinkle with mozzarella cheese.
  • Take to preheated oven at 200 degrees Celsius for 15 minutes, or until cheese melts and gold.
  • Serve immediately.

Notes

  • To give the escondidinho a more special flavor, you can add other ingredients to the ground meat, such as bacon, olives, corn, peas, etc.
  • You can also use other types of cheese, such as parmesan, provolone, or cheddar.
  • If you don’t want to use the oven, you can bake the escondidinho in a non-stick pan over medium heat for about 30 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and golden.
