Ingredients

  • 1 baguette or day-old French bread

  • 2 cups of milk

  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon powder

  • 3/4 cup of sugar

  • 3 eggs

  • Vegetable oil, for frying

  • Cinnamon powder

  • Icing sugar

Directions

  • Cut the bread into slices about 2 centimeters thick.
  • Reserve.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together milk, sugar, and ground cinnamon until sugar is dissolved.
  • In another bowl, lightly beat the eggs.
  • Heat vegetable oil in a pan large enough to fry the French toast.
  • Dip the bread slices into the milk mixture, making sure to cover both sides completely.
  • Let the bread absorb the mixture for a few seconds.
  • Then pass the bread slices in the egg mixture, covering them well.
  • Carefully place the bread slices in the pan with hot oil and fry until golden brown on both sides.
  • This usually takes about 2-3 minutes per side.
  • Remove the french toasts from the pan and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
  • In a small bowl, mix some icing sugar with powdered cinnamon.
  • Sprinkle this mixture over the fried French toast.
  • Serve the french toast hot or at room temperature.
  • They can be enjoyed alone or accompanied by sugar syrup, dulce de leche or even a scoop of ice cream.
