Creamy Hominy

Creamy canjica is a typical dessert of Brazilian cuisine, especially common during June festivals. It is made with white corn, milk, sugar and spices, such as cinnamon and cloves. The result is a sweet and creamy dessert, which is perfect for warming up cold days.

Ingredients

  • 1 liter of whole milk

  • 2 liters of water

  • 500 g corn for hominy

  • 1/2 cup sugar

  • 1 can of condensed milk

  • 1 cinnamon stick

  • 3 cloves

Directions

  • Soak the hominy in cold water for at least 12 hours.
  • Drain the hominy and place it in a large pan.
  • Cover with water and place over high heat.
  • When the water boils, lower the heat and cook for about 1 hour, or until the hominy is soft.
  • Drain the hominy and set aside.
  • In a large pan, mix the milk, condensed milk, sugar, cinnamon stick and cloves.
  • Place over medium heat and cook for about 15 minutes, or until the cream thickens.
  • Add the cooked hominy and mix well.
  • Cook for another 5 minutes, or until the hominy is well cooked.
  • Turn off the heat and serve hot.
