Former President Jair Bolsonaro canceled his participation in a far-right act in Portugal after having his passport withheld due to an operation by the Federal Police. André Ventura, leader of the extremist party Chega, announced that the World Summit of the Right, scheduled for May 13 and 14 in Lisbon, will be rescheduled on behalf of the Brazilian.

“As a result of the events that we are all following and that we have all been able to see, especially in the last few days, Chega will have to suspend and reschedule the World Summit on Rights for a later date,” said Ventura.

He says that the investigation against Bolsonaro is a “persecution” and that several countries treat right-wing politicians with “aggression”.

“The persecution to which some of our main guests have been subject, involved in maneuvers of restraint and even, in the case of the former Brazilian president, Jair Bolsonaro, the seizure and retention of his passport, preventing him from traveling, a few days ago for the summit to take place, they clearly reveal the spirit of aggression, conditioning and threat that reigns in certain countries and that they want to do against the world right”, he continued.

Despite the determination of Alexandre de Moraes, Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), the former president’s passport was not seized. According to a PF agent, “the object was not of interest to the investigation” and the measure would be unnecessary.

The World Summit of the Right would take place at the Lisbon Congress Center and, in addition to Bolsonaro, would feature other Brazilian guests, such as federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP), former ministers Gilson Machado (Tourism) and Onyx Lorenzoni (Casa Civil). Also on the list for the event were Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini and Vice President of the Spanish Vox party, Iván Espinoza.

Donald Trump, former president of the United States, was also speculated at the event, but his presence was not confirmed. The only American politician officially invited to the event is Mark Ivanyo, a member of the Republican Party.
