Beef Stroganoff

Ingredients
500g beef (filet mignon, rump, or other soft meat) cut into thin strips
1 medium chopped onion
2 minced garlic cloves
2 tablespoons butter or vegetable oil
1 tablespoon sunflower oil (or other vegetable oil for sautéing)
1 can of whey-free cream (300g)
200g sliced fresh mushrooms (optional)
1 tablespoon ketchup
1 tablespoon mustard
1/2 cup beef broth (or water)
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Salt and pepper to taste
1 pinch of nutmeg (optional)
Directions
- In a large pot, heat the sunflower oil over medium-high heat and add the meat cut into strips.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste and sauté until golden.
Remove the meat from the pan and set aside. - In the same pan, add butter or vegetable oil and sauté the chopped onion until transparent.
- Then add the garlic and sliced mushrooms (if using) and cook for a few minutes until the mushrooms are tender.
- Reduce the heat to medium-low and return the meat to the pan.
- Add the ketchup, mustard and Worcestershire sauce.
Mix all ingredients well. - Add the beef stock (or water) to the pot and cook for a few minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Turn off the fire and incorporate the whey-free milk cream into the mixture.
- If you prefer, add a pinch of nutmeg to enhance the flavor.
- Reheat the mixture over low heat, without bringing it to a boil, until it is very hot.
- Check seasoning and adjust salt and pepper if necessary.
