Here is a basic recipe for making meat empanadas.
Ingredients
2 cups of wheat flour
1/2 cup warm water
1/2 cup butter
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1/2 cup ground beef
1/2 cup chopped onion
2 minced garlic cloves
1/2 cup chopped olives
1/4 cup chopped parsley
1 beaten egg (for brushing)
Directions
- In a bowl, mix the wheat flour, warm water, butter and salt until it forms a homogeneous dough.
- Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and place in the fridge for 30 minutes.
- In a pan, sauté the ground beef, onion, garlic and olives until the meat is cooked.Â
Add parsley and mix well. - Let cool.
- Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius.
- Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface and cut into circles using a glass or cookie cutter.
- Fill each dough circle with the meat filling and fold the dough into a half moon shape.
- Press the edges with a fork to close them.
- Brush the empanadas with beaten egg and bake for about 20 minutes or until golden and crispy.
- Serve it hot.
