Pesto is a traditional Italian condiment paste made with fresh basil, pine nuts, Parmesan cheese, garlic and olive oil. It is used as a sauce for pasta or bread.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh basil leaves

  • 1/2 cup toasted pine nuts

  • 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese

  • 2 minced garlic cloves

  • 1/2 cup olive oil

  • Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

  • Place all ingredients in a food processor or blender.
  • Beat until you form a homogeneous paste.
  • Add more olive oil if needed to reach desired consistency.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Serve with pasta, bread or as an appetizer for dipping.
  • It can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 1 week or frozen for up to 3 months.
