Barricades set up in New York courthouse amid accusations against Donald Trump
On Monday afternoon (20), barricades were set up around a courthouse in Manhattan, as New York City prepares for a possible formal indictment against Donald Trump. Actress Stormy Daniels, who allegedly had a relationship with the politician a few years earlier, was paid $130,000 to keep the “secret”. If indicted, Trump would be the first former US president charged with a crime.
The expectation is that a grand jury will indict the politician this Monday or next Wednesday (22), according to the Politico website. However, by all indications, the jury still appears to be gathering evidence before deciding whether or not the charges are justified.
Trump, who is seeking the Republican nomination for the 2024 presidential election, predicted he would be detained on Tuesday.
By calling the protests, Trump has sparked fears among police and law enforcement officials that his supporters could become involved in episodes of violence similar to the attack on the US Capitol on January 6, 2021.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams told reporters that police were monitoring social media for “inappropriate actions” in the city. The New York Police Department said there were no known real threats.
