Escondidinho de carne is a typical dish of Brazilian cuisine, made with mashed potatoes, ground beef or shredded meat, and gratin cheese. It is a simple and easy dish to make, but very tasty and comforting.

To make your meat hideaway, use the ingredients below and follow the preparation instructions.

Ingredients

  • 1 kg of potatoes

  • 500 g of ground beef

  • 200 g mozzarella cheese

  • Oil

  • 1 onion

  • 1 clove of crushed garlic

  • Salt to taste

  • White pepper to taste

Directions

  • Cook potatoes in boiling water until tender.
  • Drain the potatoes and mash them with a fork or potato masher.
  • In a pan, add a drizzle of olive oil, the onion and garlic and sauté until golden.
  • Add the ground meat and sauté until the water dries up.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • In an ovenproof dish, make a layer of mashed potatoes.
  • Over the puree, place the ground meat.
  • Cover with the remaining mashed potatoes.
  • Sprinkle with mozzarella cheese.
  • Place in a preheated oven at 200ºC for 20 minutes, or until the cheese melts and browns.
