Oven Kibbeh

Oven kibbeh is a variation on traditional kibbeh, which is baked in the oven instead of fried. It is a very popular dish in Brazil, and can be served as a starter, appetizer or main course.

Oven kibbeh is made with wheat dough for kibbeh, ground meat, onion, garlic, mint, salt and pepper. 
The dough is shaped into a disc or rectangle and baked in the oven until golden.

Ingredients

  • 500 g of wheat for kibbeh

  • 750 ml of hot water

  • 500 g of ground beef

  • 3 cloves of garlic, chopped

  • 1 chopped onion

  • 4 tablespoons chopped mint

  • 1 tablespoon of salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

  • Oil for greasing

Directions

  • Place the kibbeh wheat in a large bowl and add the hot water. 
    Let it hydrate for 30 minutes.
  • In a bowl, mix the ground beef, garlic, onion, mint, salt and black pepper.
  • Drain the hydrated wheat and add it to the meat mixture. 
    Mix well until a homogeneous dough forms.
  • Grease a baking dish with olive oil and spread half the dough.
  • If desired, add a filling of your choice, such as cheese, cottage cheese, vegetables or shredded chicken.
  • Cover with the remaining dough and drizzle with olive oil.
  • Bake in a preheated oven at 200°C for 30-40 minutes, or until golden.
