Rosti potato

Potato rosti is a traditional Swiss dish, made with grated potatoes, butter and salt. The word “rösti” comes from the German “rösten”, which means “to grill”.

Rosti potatoes are usually served as a side dish for meats such as steak or chicken. 
It can also be served as a main dish, accompanied by a salad or fried egg.

Ingredients

  • 1 kg of potatoes

  • 1 tablespoon of butter

  • Salt to taste

Directions

  • Cook the potatoes in boiling salted water until they are soft but not falling apart.
  • Place the grated potatoes in a kitchen towel and wring well to remove excess water.
  • In a large skillet, heat the butter over medium heat.
  • Add the grated potatoes and spread them evenly in the pan.
  • Cook for 5 minutes on each side, or until golden.
  • Season with salt to taste and serve.

Notes

  • For the potato rosti to be crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, it is important to remove excess water.
  • If you want, you can add other ingredients to the potato rosti, such as onion, bacon, cheese or fine herbs.
