Ingredients
500g pasta (penne, fusilli, rigatoni, etc.)
500g tomato sauce (or sauce of your choice)
250g grated mozzarella cheese
100g grated parmesan cheese
1 small chopped onion
2 minced garlic cloves
2 tablespoons of olive oil
Salt and pepper to taste
1 teaspoon oregano (or other dried herbs to taste)
1/2 cup water (optional, to keep the pasta from getting too dry)
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 200°C.
- Cook pasta in a large pot of salted water according to package directions until al dente.
- Run and book.
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
- Add chopped onion and sauté until soft and translucent.
- Then add the minced garlic and sauté for a few more minutes.
- Add the tomato sauce to the skillet and mix well with the sauteed onion and garlic.
Season with salt, pepper and oregano (or other dried herbs of your choice). - If the sauce is too thick, add a little water to obtain a more suitable consistency for cooking pasta in the oven.
- Toss cooked pasta with sauce in skillet, making sure all pasta pieces are well coated.
- In a large refractory or roasting pan, spread a layer of half the pasta with sauce.
- Cover with half of the grated mozzarella cheese.
- Repeat the process with the remaining layer of macaroni and finish with the remaining mozzarella cheese.
- Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese over the pasta and place in the preheated oven.
- Bake for approximately 20-25 minutes or until cheese is melted and golden.
- Remove the oven noodles from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes before serving.
